The Department integrates comprehensive study of geography and history alongside educational theory and practice.
This program is designed to prepare students to become educators who can effectively teach geography and history in educational settings.
Students acquire a deep understanding of geographical and historical concepts, theories, and methodologies.
They explore topics such as human geography, physical geography, world history, and regional studies.
The program includes courses focused on educational psychology, curriculum development, instructional methods, and assessment techniques specific to teaching geography and history.
Students also learn how to design effective lesson plans, manage classrooms, and address diverse learner needs.
The program aims to foster reflective practice and continuous professional development. Students are encouraged to stay updated with developments in geography, history, and educational research.
They also explore ethical considerations and societal impacts related to teaching these subjects.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates of a Geography-History (with Education) program have a variety of career paths available to them, both within and outside the traditional educational setting.
Graduates can become certified teachers in geography and history at middle and high school levels.
They can work as curriculum developers or coordinators, designing educational programs and materials that align with national standards and educational goals.
Some of them may choose to work independently or with educational agencies to provide personalized tutoring or coaching services to students seeking additional support in geography and history subjects.
They may work in museums, cultural institutions, or historic sites as educators, developing and delivering programs that enhance visitors' understanding of geography and history.
By pursuing advanced degrees (such as Master's or Ph.D.) in education, geography, history, or related fields, graduates can prepare for careers in research, academia, or specialized educational roles.
As the program is meant to train those who aspire to be secondary school teachers of History and Geography, a prospective student to enroll in the first year of Geography-History must have successfully completed secondary school level with at least 2 principal passes in Geography and History.
