Introduction

The Chair of Ethics has academic and extra-curricular activities.  From the academic point of view, specific courses are integrated in the teaching programs.

Objective

The mission of the Chair of Ethics is to enligthen the academic and research programmes on moral and  ethical aspects of social issues related to development and economy

Achievment

Those courses are:

1. Social Doctrine of the Church : Aims are to: - To initiate the Students to the thought and to the Catholic Church’s vision on the society in general especially on the points concerning communication, development and economic domains; - History of the Social Doctrine of the Church;- Principles of the Social Doctrine of the Church; - Key themes of the Social Doctrine of the Church;- General presentation of the great orientations of the Church through Social Encyclicals

2. Christian Moral and Social problems: Aims are to help the Students to: - analyze social problems on the light of Christian moral foundations; - be imbued by the role of the human being in edification of good society; - indicate that the Social Doctrine of the Church is main source of inspiration in resolving social issues as a Christian.

Content: - Terminology; - Study of human conduct and morality; - Modern society and its challenges; - Characteristics of Christian ethics; - Christian moral in the face of social, economic and politic issues; - Peace and its foundations.

3. Catholic church and Development: Aims are to help the Students to: - analyze social problems on the light of Christian moral foundations; - be imbued by the role of the human being in edification of good society; - indicate that the Social Doctrine of the Church is main source of inspiration in resolving social issues as a Christian.

4. Ethics and Rwandan culture: Aims are to help the Students to: - Get moral, social, civic, scientific intellectual and professional development; - Understand moral sensitivity and responsibility; - Know and apply principles of happy life; - Become aware of positive values of Rwanda; - Know the cultural evolution of our country since its origin till today.
Content: - Theoretical considerations of moral/ ethics; - Relationship between ethics and others sciences; - The evolution of Rwandan culture through History. As for the extra-curricular activities, the Chair of Ethics organizes conferences, workshops, pastoral and charity activities.
